The report claims an unnamed Samsung executive shared the release date plans, and the phone will launch in "early September."

The purported dates roughly match previous reports, which indicated the phone would be announced at the end of August (right in time for the IFA technology show in Berlin) and launch in "mid-September."

Launching in early September would give Samsung an early jump on Apple's iPhone 8, which is expected to be announced in mid-September. And with rumors that Apple is having many issues with the iPhone 8's juicy new features, Samsung is well-positioned to steal some of Apple's thunder.

The Galaxy Note 8 will be yet another pivotal moment for Samsung.

The Galaxy Note 8 will be yet another pivotal release for Samsung. Although the company has largely shed the bad publicity from last year's exploding Galaxy Note 7 incidents, there are still some who remain skeptical.

Samsung successfully launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in April with batteries that go through a new 8-point battery safety check designed to prevent batteries from ever exploding again. And it looks like it's working so far. There haven't been any reports of Galaxy S8 batteries exploding. Even when punctured, the S8's battery doesn't catch on fire.

Based on rumors, the Note 8 sounds like it'll be one helluva phone. It's expected to have a larger 6.3-inch edge-to-edge screen than the S8+, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, headphone jack, and a 3,300 mAh battery.

The S Pen stylus is said to be getting an upgrade with new advanced software features such as live sentence translation, and multi-tasking is reportedly easier.

The Note 8 will also reportedly come with dual cameras on the back, but they might not work like the iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5's.

If the reports are true, we've only got a little over a month before the Note 8 is officially released. If you're in the market for a new phone, it's probably a good time to wait and see what Samsung does .
