Chinese battery startup Inx recently announced that it has developed a new solid-state lithium-metal battery which could Dear Utol (2025): Week 7 Highlights 40be powerful enough for use in electric aircraft, and has signed a supply deal with Chinese drone maker EHang. The battery has an energy density of 480 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg), which allowed a flying car developed by EHang to complete a trial flight that lasted for more than 48 minutes on Nov. 1, Inx said on Nov. 15 at a press conference. For comparison, the energy density of liquid-state lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles is normally between 200 and 300 Wh/kg, TechNode has reported. Inx, headquartered in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, said it has established an assembly line to produce 200 megawatt hours’ (MWh) worth of solid-state lithium-metal batteries per year.
