As Carrey alluded, he's far from the first to impersonate Biden on the show. Both Woody Harrelson and John Mulaney have appeared as the former vice president in the past year. Carrey's first appeared as the president-elect came when the show returned for its 46th season on Oct. 3, often with Maya Rudolph as Vice President-elect Kamala Harris by his side.

The official SNL Twitter account retweeted Carrey, thanking him for "showing up when it mattered":

Seeing as Alec Baldwin was "overjoyed" to lose his role as Trump on SNL, it's not surprising that Carrey wouldn't want to commit to (at least) four years of playing the president. SNL didn't announce who will play Biden next — a cast member or a guest — but whoever it is will have to get used to saying "malarkey" a lot.
