The Republican nominee began to audibly sniff throughout his opening statements and following arguments, leaving many viewers to wonder why nobody passed him a Kleenex.

Was it seasonal allergy? Early-stage pneumonia? Maybe just a bad smell?

After the debate, Trump tried to lay the blame to a "defective mic."

During a visit to the media spin room, he commented on moderator Lester Holt, saying he "was fine."

"And they also gave me a defective mic," he added. "Did you notice that? My mic was defective within the room."

"I wonder. Was that on purpose? Was that on purpose? I had a mic that wasn't working properly..."
